Criminal Trial – Misdemeanor
What is a misdemeanor trial
A criminal trial is where you present your case. You’ve normally received an offer from the State and rejected it because you feel you have done nothing wrong and committed no crime, or the evidence against is weak. Normally on a misdemeanor jury you have a smaller jury pool to select from and a smaller jury to hear your case. In Texas there are 6 jurors presiding in a misdemeanor jury trial.
Class A misdemeanors have a one year maximum, Class B misdemeanors have a 180 day or 6 month maximum.
Misdemeanor trials are just a serious as felonies but the big difference is the potential time that can be spent in jail or prison. For misdemeanors the maximum is one year.
